EDMONSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT - STATEMENT OF BENEFITS & COMPENSATION

As of July 1, 2011
Starting Salary:  $43,556.00 

Annual Leave: Entry level employees earn 4 hours of annual leave per pay period.
Sick Leave: Entry level employees earn 4 hours of sick leave per pay period.  
Holiday Pay:  8 hours of additional pay on Holidays Worked.

Medical Insurance: The Town of Edmonston pays 100% of the cost for officer’s medical insurance premiums.  The Town pays 75% of an officer’s spouse and family health insurance premiums.  Blue Cross Blue Shield Care First is provided.

Life Insurance: The Town offers $50,000.00 life insurance for each police officer. Officers may purchase additional insurance for themselves and spouse.

457 Investment Account The Town will match up to $2,000.00 a year in contributions for a 457 investment account (ICMA).

AFLAC Officers may purchase Personal Accident insurance from AFLAC through the Town.

Retirement: The Town is currently in negotiations with the State of Maryland in pursuit of an employee retirement system. 

Note: While it is not considered a benefit, the Edmonston Police Department has a police car take home program for officers that live within 25 miles of the Town of Edmonston.  Cars are assigned after completion of Field Training and based on the availability of vehicles. 

Police uniforms, weapon, leather gear and other equipment are provided by the Edmonston Police Department. 

Special skills - language pay:
Employees that are fluent in a secondary language receive $1,000.00 additional salary annually, paid incremently - biweekly.
(Approximately $85.00 additional pay every two weeks)

The Town of Edmonston is continously accepting applications from candidates that are currently Maryland Certified Police Officers (or officers that can meet the certification requirements through Comparative Compliance *) for the position of full time Police Officer.  (10/01/11)

The Town of Edmonston Police Department is accepting applications for the position of entry level police officer. Candidates will undergo an extensive background investigation, as well as a physical, and psychological evaluation.  Starting salary $43,556, excellent benefit package including a take home vehicle.  Interested persons may obtain an application and supplementary information at the Edmonston Town Hall, 5005 52nd Avenue Edmonston, Maryland or at www.edmonstonmd.gov. A thorough background investigation will be conducted before an offer of employment.  The results of that background investigation could disqualify the candidate from consideration for this position.  After an offer of employment a complete physical examination, to include a drug test, will be required.  A psychological exam will also be required.  The result of these examinations may disqualify the candidate.  The candidate will also be administered a polygraph examination, the results of which will be considered along with other information may result in disqualification for employment.  All applicants must be a documented U.S. citizen

The Town of Edmonston is a full service community with a small police department.  The department provides police services to citizens and visitors of the Town.  Currently the department provides a 24/7 coverage on a rotating schedule which requires work on weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather.

The Town of Edmonston is seeking employees who can work within a small town policing environment, and with the flexibility to perform a variety of tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A successful candidate must at a minimum be able to perform the following essential functions:

    1.  Drive an automobile
    2.  Have eyesight correctable to 20/20
    3.  Be able to walk and stand on one's feet for periods of up to three (3) hours
    4.  Be able to hear human conversations at normal speaking voice volumes
    5.  Be able to lift 1/2 half of one's own body weight

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate shall have the best combination of a satisfactory background, solid work history, and:
   
    1.  Minimum of 21 years of age
    2.  High school graduate or GED
    3.  Valid Maryland operator's license
    4.  Good driving record
    5.  History of dependability as an employee
    6.  Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commission certified is preferred
    7.  Ability to successfully complete any and all police training requirements.

* Comparative Compliance is a course that is given to police officers that have been previously certified in other states, and provides the additional training needed to meet the minimum requirements of a Maryland certified police officer.  Not all states or Federal Police Officer training qualifies for certification in Maryland through comparative compliance.  You may wish to contact the Maryland Police & Correctional Training (MPCTC) at 410-875-3400 to see if your previous training will meet the minimum standards for Maryland certification.
